Conference in Ft. Worth

This past weekend I went to the MFT (marriage and family therapy) conference in Ft. Worth. While officially the conference was about learning and getting to hear Sue Johnson and some other widely respected people in the field - I'll have to say getting to see friends from the MFT program and from camp and just getting to hang out with people were the highlight. It was really cool getting to catch up with people that we seem to busy to even see in Abilene. Although on a side note it is interesting that we never have enough time yet I've been tagged by about 20 people on facebook to read their 25 random things about themselves and often read they spent 2 hours or more on it. Of course who knows how much time I spend on random stuff too!!! ha!!

Anyway, I got to meet up with one of my first counselors from Camp and hang out with her a while and see how much her two boys and little girl are growing. I'd post a picture but she took them on her phone so.... Here is how you know I have no kids... we decided to go to McDonald's so that the kids could have a playground. Well we have actually been having some winter weather and so it is pretty cold outside and has actually been icy. Well due to traffic I beat them there by about 30 minutes and sat there and never noticed the playground was outside and was wet!!! Don't worry kids are very adaptable - sometimes to our distress but we had a good time.

I also got to hang with some other friends at Billy Bob's which is famous for the riding of the bull. Guess what no pictures of that either; I'll blame that on not being able to stay long because of the cigarette smoke. I also got to spend some time with some of my friends that graduated with me last year and catch up. I miss you guys so much. Bro (Scott), Amy, Holland, Steve (even though you live in Abilene) it was great to catch up and hang out.

What there are pictures of is our first hotel room. Now because I didn't know the conference started at 9 am Thursday morning we had only gotten a hotel for Thursday and Friday night. For those who know me when I found out I had to be there before 9 on Thursday morning I was not that found of leaving here at 5:30 to drive there so since Betty Hardwick (work) offerend I booked a hotel at the Texas Whitehouse. Now from the website (http://www.texaswhitehouse.com/) it looks like a great place. Even from the beginning of this video (attached) it is so cute and the bathroom so anitque and cool. It seems like something right out of the Texas Hill Country.
However, as anyone who has stayed at a bed and breakfast knows the most important thing is the bed and well let's just say that was lacking. I could have slept on the floor and it might just have been softer. But for me the pillows are super important because they determine if I have a neck and back ache the next day. Well, I have a love for the Hilton Hotel pillows so left my skillfully picked out and in my eyes perfect pillows at home and oh was this a mistake. Just check out the video and the pictures. You will notice that apparently the owners were trying to give you two options: the blue pillow that was so firm when you bent it it bounced right back and you would never know it had been moved or the white pillow that really looks like wadded up sheets and squeezed down to the size of a serving bowl and let's just say offered no support.

Guess what - yes I woke up with a cramped neck and an aching back and an arm that was asleep from trying to give my head some support during the night. So if you must venture to the Texas White House - my suggestion take a blow up mattress and your own pillows (or at least an egg shell mattress)

Overall the trip was great and probably the best thing other than seeing people I miss was with the weather I had about a week break from my job!!!!
